why spirit & Sand exists

We started as helpers. The kind who worked in systems, filled out forms, handed out bus tokens, and held it together through crisis after crisis. But eventually, something cracked—not from a lack of care, but from seeing how often care was reduced to compliance.

Spirit & Sand is growing from that breaking point. From the recognition that real healing rarely happens through programs or paperwork. It happens through stories. Through truth-telling. Through uncovering our gifts and making space for others to do the same.

This isn’t about walking away from compassion. It’s about reclaiming it on our own terms and building something more honest, more human, and less afraid.

Cally Beth Proctor, Founder & Executive director

After nearly two decades in social services—working in housing, disability support, and crisis response—she became disillusioned with systems that often held people down instead of lifting them up.

Spirit & Sand began as a housing-focused nonprofit, but has since grown into something deeper: a space for storytelling, reflection, and helping people remember who they are and what they're capable of.

Cally’s writing explores themes of culture, motherhood, higher truths, and the strange beauty of being human. She leads with honesty and curiosity, knowing that real transformation rarely comes from anything but love, meaning, and the courage to live differently.
