What are Housing Stabilization Services (HSS)?

What does HSS do?

HSS providers can assist eligible adults with the following:

• Navigating Housing Benefits: Assisting with benefit applications, funding for deposits/moving expenses, and budgeting.
• Housing Search & Application: Aiding in finding housing, completing applications, and handling tenant screenings.
• Lease & Move Support: Offering help with lease negotiations, organizing moves, and providing transportation.
• Tenant & Landlord Relations: Educating on tenant rights, building relationships with landlords, and advocating to prevent eviction.
• Safety & Crisis Planning: Ensuring safe move-ins, arranging adaptive accommodations, and developing crisis/housing retention plans.

Who is Eligible for HSS?

In order to be eligible for HSS with Spirit & Sand, an individual must meet all of the following needs-based criteria:

• Be on Medical Assistance (MA)
  • We work with the following insurance carriers: Straight MA, UCare, Hennepin Health, HealthPartners, and UnitedHealthcare.
• Be 18 years old or older
• Reside in one of the following Minnesota counties: Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, Scott, Carver, Dakota, Washington, or Olmsted.
• Have a documented disability or disabling condition
• Be experiencing homelessness or housing instability
